User upload speeds in OmniStor are controlled by the "Group management" settings in OSM. If users report slow uploads, the most direct way to address this is to adjust the "Upload Rate" setting of the group they belong to.
Before You Begin
- Make sure you have administrative permissions on the OSM platform and have the "User Management\Group Licenses management" operational rights.
- Confirm with your network or infrastructure team the bandwidth limits that can be allocated to OmniStor to avoid a single group consuming all available bandwidth.
- Identify the permission group the user belongs to. If the user belongs to multiple groups, the settings of the group listed highest in the list take precedence.
Steps
Adjust Group Upload Rate
- Log in to OSM. From the left menu, sequentially select User Management > Group Licenses management > Group Licenses management.
- In the group list, locate the group the user belongs to (for example, Users or your custom group name).
- Click on the Upload Rate (kbps) field of that row and enter a new value. Then click the Save button on the right side of the row to complete the setting.
Recommended Values
Scenario | Recommended Rate (kbps) |
|---|---|
General office document collaboration | 10240 (about 10 Mbps) |
Regular uploads of large files such as design or video | 102400 (about 100 Mbps) |
System administrators, backend integration | 1024000 (about 1 Gbps) |
Please adjust the actual values according to your organization’s bandwidth and business needs. In the same row, you can also see the Single File Upload (MB) field. If users report that "large file uploads fail halfway" rather than "the speed itself is slow," the problem might be that the single file limit is too low—please adjust this amount accordingly.
Tips
The configured rate is the maximum total bandwidth available for that group and is shared among all users uploading simultaneously. If the group has many members, please reserve sufficient bandwidth headroom.
If a user belongs to multiple groups, OSM will apply the settings of the group listed highest in the group list. Please check the group list order.
If users still feel the speed is slow after adjustment, please assist by following the client troubleshooting directions in the section titled "Why is upload speed still slow?"
Why Is Upload Speed Still Slow?
If users still report slow speeds after increasing the OSM group rate, please check the following in order:
- Local network bandwidth: Have the user perform a speed test and verify that their upload bandwidth is sufficient for the expected rate.
Enterprise network QoS or Proxy: Some organizations control bandwidth on cloud services through network gateway; please consult your network administrator to verify whether such restrictions are in place.
Simultaneous uploads of many files: Concurrent uploads on the user’s end may compete for bandwidth.
Single file near limit: Check if the upload is interrupted due to reaching the "Single File Upload Limit."
User group order: Confirm that the changes are applied is the group you just adjusted, rather than another listed above it.
