Introduction to OmniStor Drive Folders

After mounting OmniStor Drive, you will see three default folders in the OmniStor Drive virtual disk in File Explorer (W: by default). This article explains the purpose of each folder.

Where to find these folders?

After logging into OmniStor Drive, open File Explorer and go to "This PC → OmniStor Drive (W:)". By default, you will see three folders:

  • MySyncFolder (My Sync Folder)
  • Shared With Me
  • ProjectSpace (Project Folder)

Folder names may differ:

Enterprise users can customize the names of these three folders, so the names you see in your environment might not be the English names listed above. The functionality remains the same.

Enterprise users can also configure whether these three folders are available. If you find some folders missing, it may be because your system administrator has not enabled them for use.

MySyncFolder (My Sync Folder)

Purpose: Your personal cloud file management space.

This is your own cloud "My Documents." Files placed here:

  • Are visible only to you unless you actively share them with others.
  • Are synced to your OmniStor account and can be accessed from any device by logging in (Web, mobile app, other Windows PCs) with the same content.

When to use it? Store your regular work files, personal documents, and content you want to access across devices but do not want to share.

Shared With Me

Purpose: Files shared with you by others from their MySyncFolder will appear here.

  • You can "see" these files, but the owner of the files is the colleague who shared them with you.
  • If the sharer revokes the share or deletes the original file, the content you see here will also disappear.
  • What you can do with the files (view, edit, download, etc.) depends on the permissions granted by the owner.

When does it appear? This folder appears whenever someone shares files with you from their MySyncFolder using OmniStor’s sharing feature. If no one has shared files with you, this folder will be empty.

ProjectSpace (Project Folder)

Purpose: A shared folder for the organization, managed by system administrators.

  • This is a space for team collaboration, not for individual use.
  • You will only see this folder after being added as a member by the system administrator. If you are not added, you will not see any project folders.
  • An organization can have multiple project folders (e.g., "Marketing Department," "2025 Annual Report," "Client Contract Documents"). You will see the ones you belong to.

When to use it? Use ProjectSpace when you need to collaborate, co-edit, or share files with team members. Examples include department-shared materials or cross-department project documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I don’t see any folders inside ProjectSpace?

A: You may not have been added to any project folders yet. Please contact your system administrator to be added to the necessary project folder members.

Q: My colleague said they shared files with me, but I can’t see them in Shared With Me?

A: Please ask your colleague to confirm that the share was successfully sent and that the recipient is your correct OmniStor account. They can also check the share status from the "Shared by Me" section in the Web interface.

Q: Can I move files from ProjectSpace to MySyncFolder?

A: If permissions allow, you can copy or move files to MySyncFolder. However, please note: after moving, the file becomes your personal file, and your collaborators will no longer see it. In most cases, it is recommended to use "copy" rather than "move."

Q: Which folders does ransomware detection monitor?

A: If your organization has enabled ransomware detection, it monitors file extensions within MySyncFolder, Shared With Me, and ProjectSpace. Files detected with abnormal extension changes will not be uploaded to the cloud.
