When you see the message "Storage space is full, please upgrade your space" or something similar, it means your OmniStor cloud storage usage has reached the limit set by your administrator. This article explains how to check your remaining space, how to free up space, and when to ask an administrator for help.
First, Confirm: Which Type of "Space Full" Is It?
There are actually two types of "space" on OmniStor. You can tell which one it is by the message you see:
Message You See | What It Means |
|---|---|
Storage space is full, please upgrade your space | Your personal account MySyncFolder has reached its limit |
Folder space is full, unable to upload new files. Please free up space | The project folder (ProjectSpace) you are uploading to has reached its limit |
Single file upload limit exceeded | Not a space issue — this means the file size exceeds the maximum single file upload limit |
Each situation requires a different approach. Please find the corresponding section below based on the message you see.
Scenario 1: Personal Space Full (MySyncFolder)
Check How Much Space Is Left
From the OmniStor Drive taskbar icon → Open OmniStor Web, then log in:
- Click the account icon (profile picture) in the upper right corner.
- Go to the Account Information page.
- You will see your current used space and remaining available space.
Confirm how much you have exceeded, then decide how much space you need to free.
How to Free Up Space
Method 1: Delete Unneeded Files
Go directly to MySyncFolder and delete files you no longer need. Reminder:
- Deleted files first go to the Recycle Bin and still occupy space.
- To reclaim space, remember to permanently delete files from the Recycle Bin.
Method 2: Move Large Files Out of MySyncFolder
If you have large files you don’t want to delete but don’t currently need in the cloud:
- Download them to another local drive (D drive, E drive, external hard drive, etc.), then delete them from MySyncFolder.
Moving files to ProjectSpace can also free up your personal space.
Method 3: Clean Up Old Backups
If you have enabled backup for multiple computers, consider removing backups for old devices you no longer use (manage this in the Backup section of OmniStor Web).
Still Not Enough? Ask the Administrator to Increase Your Quota
If you truly need more space for work and cannot delete or move files:
- Contact your system administrator.
- Provide: your account name, current used space, and estimated additional space needed.
- The administrator will evaluate whether to adjust your group’s quota or move you to a group with a larger quota.
Scenario 2: Project Folder Space Full (ProjectSpace)
When you try to upload files to a project folder and see "Folder space is full, unable to upload new files":
What You Can Do
- If you are the folder owner: Clean up expired or redundant files within that folder.
- If you are just a member: Contact the folder owner or system administrator. You cannot increase the project folder quota yourself.
Suggestions for Folder Owners
- Communicate with folder members about which files can be cleaned up.
- Consider archiving important but infrequently used files (move them to another project folder designated for archiving).
- If the entire project folder quota is consistently insufficient, contact the system administrator for adjustment.
Scenario 3: "Single File Upload Limit Exceeded"
OmniStor administrators can set single file size upload limits separately for accounts and project folders. If you receive the message "Single file upload limit exceeded," it means the file you tried to upload exceeds the limit set for that folder or account.
How to Check the Single File Upload Limit
Same as checking personal space:
- Open OmniStor Web. Click the account icon in the upper right corner → Account Information.
- Check the Single File Upload Limit.
For example, if the limit is 2GB, you cannot upload a single file larger than 2GB.
How to Handle This
- If the file can be split: Split it into smaller files and upload in batches (suitable for zip archives, video materials, etc.).
- If the file cannot be split: Contact your administrator to see if the single file limit can be increased. Provide your account, the file size you want to upload, and explanation of its use.
How to Avoid This Problem Next Time?
- Regularly check your account information: Review your space usage once a month to address issues early.
- Develop a habit of cleaning up: Regularly delete completed projects, expired versions, and no longer needed materials.
- Make good use of the Recycle Bin: Remember to empty the Recycle Bin after deleting files to truly free up space.
- Check before uploading large files: Before uploading large files, check the single file limit and remaining space in Account Information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I deleted many files, why hasn’t space been freed?
A: Deleted files first go to the Recycle Bin and still occupy space. Please permanently delete files from the Recycle Bin to truly free up space.
Q: OmniStor Drive shows 10TB free on the disk, why can’t I upload?
A: To ensure Windows can smoothly read and write large files and avoid the system mistakenly thinking space is insufficient during file streaming, the mounted virtual disk is set by default with a 10TB limit.
Therefore, your actual upload capacity is determined by the available space allocated to you by the administrator.
Q: Can I recover deleted files?
A: You can recover recently deleted files from the Recycle Bin in OmniStor Web, but once permanently deleted, they cannot be recovered. Please confirm important files before deleting.
Q: My colleague’s space is full too, will it affect me?
A: No. Each user’s space quota is independent and does not affect others. However, if you share the same project folder, that folder’s quota is shared among all members.
Still Can’t Resolve It?
When contacting your system administrator, providing the following information can speed up the process:
- Your OmniStor account name
- The full error message you see (a screenshot is recommended)
- Current used space vs. account quota (screenshot from the Account Information page)
- Problem context: Did the error occur during file upload or other operations?
- Estimated additional space needed
