After you place a file in OmniStor Drive, if the file cannot be uploaded successfully, you can view the corresponding error message in the Error Log.
This article summarizes common error messages that may occur when uploading files and explains what each message means, recommended solutions, and situations that require assistance from a system administrator.
-
When a file upload fails, a red dot with an exclamation mark appears on the OmniStor Drive icon in the taskbar. Open the Error Log to view the details:
- Click the OmniStor Drive icon in the taskbar to open the Activity window.
- Click [Settings] → [Error Log] in the upper-right corner.
- Find the file whose upload failed and view the corresponding message.
Then, refer to the explanations and solutions below based on the error message you see.
-
Explanation: Your MySyncFolder personal space has reached its limit.
What to do:
- Free up space: Delete unnecessary files and empty the Recycle Bin.
- If you need more space for work, contact your administrator to increase your quota.
→ For detailed instructions, see “What should I do if my OmniStor storage is full?”.
-
Explanation: The project folder you are uploading to has reached the folder's storage limit.
What to do:
- If you are the folder owner: Delete expired files in the folder.
- If you are a member: Contact the folder owner or administrator.
-
Explanation: The individual file size exceeds the limit set by the administrator.
What to do:
- The file can be split: Upload it in batches (for example, split a compressed archive into multiple files).
- The file cannot be split: Contact your administrator to determine whether the individual file size limit can be increased.
→ For detailed instructions, see “What should I do if my OmniStor storage is full?”.
-
Explanation: Windows limits file paths to 260 characters, and your file path exceeds this limit.
Recommendation:
- Find the corresponding file in the Error Log.
-
Shorten the path in one of the following ways:
- Shorten any folder names that are too long.
- Move the file to a location with a shallower folder structure (avoid too many nested levels).
- Shorten the file name if it is too long.
- After the path is shortened, OmniStor Drive will automatically retry the upload.
Tip: The 260-character limit includes the full path (from the drive letter to the file name), for example,
W:\ProjectSpace\行銷部\2025年度\Q4資料\專案文件.... Deeply nested folders can easily exceed the limit. -
Explanation: You tried to upload to a folder but were not granted upload permissions.
Recommendation:
- Contact the folder owner and ask them to grant you permissions such as “Can edit” or “Can upload.”
- Confirm that the location of the file you are uploading is correct, and then try uploading it again.
-
Explanation: A temporary network issue or system message occurred.
Recommendation:
- In most cases, this is a temporary network interruption. Try again.
- If it occurs repeatedly, first check whether your network connection is stable.
- Provide the status code (such as 999 or 430) in the Error Log to your administrator for troubleshooting.
-
Explanation: When ransomware detection is enabled, an abnormal change to the file extension of a local file is detected, and the file will not be uploaded to the cloud.
Recommendation:
- This is a security alert. Immediately check whether your computer has been infected with ransomware.
- If the change was caused by a normal operation, change the file extension and try again. This file extension may have been marked as a high-risk file.
- If you need further assistance, contact IT for help.
-
If the upload failed because of a long-term network interruption (and none of the specific errors above apply), OmniStor will move the file to the Problem Files directory for safekeeping. You can retrieve the file from there and upload it again. For detailed instructions, see “How to Retrieve Files That Failed to Upload (Problem Files)”.

Have a large number of files to upload?
For the first large-scale file transfer, we recommend using the FTP feature provided by OmniStor. It is faster than using OmniStor Drive. See “How to Perform a Large-Scale File Transfer” for details.
Does the drive show 10 TB of space available, but you still cannot move files to Drive?
Your C drive may not have enough space—uploading creates temporary files on the C drive. See “Virtual Drive Shows 10 TB but Cannot Upload” for details.
