OmniStor Drive keeps some files cached on your computer to make opening cloud files smoother. This article explains how to view, clear, and limit cache usage.
Before You Begin
The main purpose of caching is to reduce latency and improve your experience.
After clearing the cache, opening files again will be slower (files need to be re-downloaded).
Open the Cache Management Window
Click the OmniStor Drive icon in the taskbar to open the Activity window.
Click Settings in the upper right corner.
Select Cache Content Management.
Five Configurable Features
1. Clear Cache Immediately
Click Clear Now to free up some cache space.
Recommended use: When disk space is low and you need a temporary cleanup.
Note: Opening files again after clearing will be slower.
2. Cache Usage Limit
Set the maximum disk space (GB) that cache can use.
When the limit is reached, the system will trigger an automatic cleanup mechanism to free space.
Recommended setting: Adjust according to your hard drive capacity to avoid the cache filling up the disk.
3. Automatic Cache Cleanup Settings
Set the start cleanup percentage and stop cleanup percentage.
For example: Start cleanup at 90%, stop at 70%, meaning the system will clean cache automatically when usage reaches 90% and stop when it drops to 70%.
4. Content PreFetch
When enabled, the system will automatically download all files in a folder when you access it, allowing offline use.
Default is off. Enabling this will significantly increase network traffic, so please enable it as needed.
5. Finish
After making changes, click Done to apply settings immediately and close the window.
Confirming Successful Settings
Return to the main Activity window. Your new cache settings take effect the next time you open a file.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between cache and cloud files? Cache is a local temporary storage that speeds up opening files; cloud files are the primary storage location. Clearing cache does not delete cloud files.
Does clearing the cache affect the "Shared with Me" folder? No. The caching mechanism only affects opening speed and does not affect file contents.
Does pre-fetching automatically download all content in ProjectSpace? Yes, when the "Content Pre-Fetch" feature is enabled, Drive will in the background pre-download related files from folders you have accessed to provide a smoother experience when opening files later.
Please note that if files in ProjectSpace change frequently, the background download process may continue running, consuming more system resources and network bandwidth. We recommend evaluating your actual usage scenario before deciding whether to enable this feature.
