How to set up a PIN code and biometrics (OmniStor mobile app)?

The OmniStor mobile app offers two extra layers of on-device protection: a PIN code and biometric login. Once enabled, even if someone has your phone and opens the app, they'll need to authenticate before seeing your OmniStor content. This article walks through setup for both iPhone (Face ID) and Android (fingerprint).

Why bother?

Your phone usually has a lock screen, but once unlocked, all apps are accessible. OmniStor's PIN code adds an extra layer:

  • Even if your phone is briefly borrowed, OmniStor won't open without the PIN.
  • Especially valuable for enterprise users protecting sensitive work data.

Step 1: Enable the PIN code

On both iOS and Android, the PIN is a 4-digit number.

iOS

  1. Open the OmniStor app.
  2. Tap Settings at the lower right.
  3. In Settings, tap the arrow next to Set Password.
  4. On the password setup page, tap Use Password.
  5. Enter the 4-digit PIN twice (they must match).
  6. Done. Every time you open OmniStor going forward, you'll need to enter this PIN.

Android

  1. Open the OmniStor app.
  2. Tap the Menu icon at the upper left to open the side menu.
  3. Tap Settings at the upper right of the menu.
  4. Tap the arrow next to the Account Info ID section.
  5. Tap the icon next to Set PIN Code to enable.
  6. Enter the 4-digit PIN twice (they must match).
  7. Done. Every time you open the OmniStor app going forward, you'll need to enter this PIN.

Important: Signing out of the app clears the PIN code setting. The next sign-in starts back at the "PIN not enabled" state, and you'll need to set it up again.

Step 2: Enable biometric login (with PIN)

Once the PIN is enabled, you can add a layer biometric login on top of that— authenticate with Face ID or fingerprint instead of typing the PIN every time.

iOS (Face ID or Touch ID)

  1. With the PIN enabled, the "Set Password" page shows a Use Face ID/Touch ID option.
  2. Tap Use Face ID/Touch ID.
  3. If biometrics are already set up on the phone, you're done.
  4. First-time users: The next time you open the app, you'll see "Allow OmniStor to use Face ID/Touch ID?" — tap OK to complete setup.
  5. If biometrics aren't set up on the phone, the system directs you to Settings → Face ID & Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode to set them up first.

Android (fingerprint)

Android follows similar logic — enable PIN first, then enable fingerprint per the in-app prompts. Specific menu paths vary by phone manufacturer.

Note: Biometrics augment the PIN, not replace it — if Face ID or fingerprint fails (e.g., wearing a mask, dirty finger), you can fall back to PIN entry.

Disable the PIN code

To turn it off:

iOS

  1. Open the OmniStor app.
  2. Tap Settings at the lower right.
  3. In Settings, tap the icon next to Set Password to disable.
  4. Enter your existing 4-digit PIN to confirm.

Android

  1. Open the OmniStor app.
  2. Enter Settings.
  3. Tap the icon next to Set PIN Code to turn off.
  4. Enter your existing 4-digit PIN to confirm.

Things to know

  • PIN is 4 digits only — letters and symbols aren't supported.
  • PIN is never displayed. If you forget it, you'll need to sign out and set it up again.
  • Signing out clears the PIN. You'll need to re-enable it after signing back in.
  • Biometrics require system-level setup. If Face ID or fingerprint isn't configured at the phone OS level, OmniStor can't use it.
  • For enterprise users: Your organization may enforce PIN code via OSM. If you can't disable PIN, check with your administrator.

Common questions

Q: I forgot my PIN. What do I do?

A: There's no direct reset — you'll need to sign out of OmniStor (which clears the PIN), then sign back in and set up a new PIN.

Q: Why does Face ID sometimes not prompt?

A: Possible reasons:

  • The phone's Face ID is temporarily disabled (after multiple failed attempts).
  • The app detects you just authenticated and skips re-verification.
  • You just revoked permission — re-allow it in phone Settings.

Q: Is the OmniStor PIN the same as my phone lock PIN?

A: No. OmniStor's PIN is its own thing, completely separate from your phone lock.

Q: What happens after multiple biometric failures?

A: It usually falls back to asking for the PIN. The phone OS itself also limits attempts and may temporarily lock biometrics — use the PIN to sign in.

Q: Can I have both PIN and biometrics enabled?

A: Yes. Biometrics extend the PIN — you must have a PIN enabled to add biometrics. They coexist: use biometrics by default, fall back to PIN if biometrics fail.
