How to use offline viewing in the OmniStor mobile app

The OmniStor mobile app offers "offline viewing" — mark a file as "offline accessible," and you can still open the file even when your phone has no network. This article covers enablement, version limits, and permission requirements.

Before you start

  • The OmniStor mobile app is installed and you're signed in.
  • Android users: Offline access requires OmniStor v3.1.0 or later.
  • iOS users:  this feature requires MIS or system administrator setup before it appears. If you don't see the offline access option, contact your administrator to verify your permissions.

Android steps

Per Android V5.3 manual Chapter 3 Section 4 "Offline Viewing":

  1. Open the OmniStor app.
  2. Tap the More icon next to the file you want to view offline.
  3. In the menu, turn on the Offline Access option.
  4. After enabling, an offline access icon appears below the filename, indicating the file can be viewed offline.

iOS information

Offline Access: Files set for offline access can be browsed and opened on the device when offline.

Note: This feature must be enabled by MIS or a system administrator before it appears.

Note: The iOS V5.4 manual does not provide a standalone operating procedure section for offline viewing. If you're an iOS user and need operating details, first confirm with your administrator that your group has the feature enabled, then follow the in-app offline access prompts.

Offline viewing limits (administrator settings)

Your organization can configure the following via permission groups, which affect whether you can use offline viewing:

  • Set Offline Browsing: Allows users in this permission group to use offline browsing on mobile devices (iOS or Android) for files starred in the cloud.
  • Maximum file size: Restricts the file size for offline browsing for this permission group.
  • Shared folder offline browsing setting: Enables or disables offline browsing of shared folders for this permission group.

If you can't enable offline access, or certain files can't be set offline, contact your administrator about the permission settings.
